Yachtapalooza Regatta

by Mike Frerker. Yachtapalooza is a pretty small and impromtu CR914 regatta, connected to a much larger start of the season event sponsored by Crowley's yacht yard. Bands, seminars, BBQ, etc. make up the larger event.
For the regatta we sail in a backwater of the Calumet river on the south side of Chicago. But we had a full sized race committee boat, and reasonable 5 knot or so winds, and a good time was had by all. Crowley's has done this the last couple of years, so think about putting it on your schedule for 2011. We started a regatta with fiveboats, but some technical difficulties (an inability to turn left) gave us four finishers, with shared helming of the 4th place finisher. . Final Results

While not an official fleet, we've got a good group of the above and a few others that try to race somewhat regularly. A lot of us are also associated with Etchells Fleet 11 out of Belmont Harbor, and try to race CR 914s when not on the Etchells. We managed to get a nice little five-boat regatta going at Yachtapalooza this year. This is a pretty impromtu sort of thing on the Calumet river on the south side of Chicago, but a good time was had by all. Crowley's Yacht Yard has done this the last couple of years, so we hope to get it on the calendar for 2011.
